What is the most efficient old-school pixel tracker script?

My web application may be messing up with Google Analytics, and I suspect it is no longer active on all the pages o for all the users.

Could you recommend an old-school pixel tracker page counter script? Something with very efficient DB use. Any language will do.

Apache logs help too, but a pixel tracker gives a bit more flexibility as it can be called with JS as needed.
